CVH Foundation News:
Our Contribution
By Joan Miles
Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation Coordinator
For two years in a row, the Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation (CVHF) has received a very generous donation from the Joshua Green Foundation. The past two Christmas Eves I have opened an envelope to find a check for $10,000. In 2003, an accompanying letter explained that $6,000 was a direct contribution from Dee and Charles Burnett III and $4,000 was a matching contribution from the Foundation. In 2004, the total amount of $10,000 was a direct contribution by the Burnetts.

Joshua Green moved to Seattle with his family in 1886, when he was 17. As an entrepreneur, Green was successful in his business ventures. In 1913 Green founded a cross-sound ferry service, which later he sold to the state of Washington. He then went in to banking, which proved very beneficial.
Green was a very frugal man. He wanted to share his good fortune with his community, and so the Joshua Green Foundation was started in the 1940s.
Cascade Valley Hospital Oncology nurse Dee Burnett's husband is a member of the Joshua Green family. Because of that, Dee and Charles were able to request the Joshua Green Foundation match a donation they wanted to make to CVH the first year.
"My husband and I believe CVH is a very important asset to the community we live in," comments Dee. "I have worked here for 10 years. Most of that has been in the ever-growing Oncology Department. I see so many needs that could help our staff and doctors provide even better care for our patients. Those dollars were used to buy three additional comfortable recliners for our patients and a portable data scope for the department. We are talking about purchasing another portable data scope.
"I hope other employees and individuals will look for resources available to them. Many employers will match your donations, and CVH is so important to our community and those who work here."
The Foundation is grateful for determined individuals, such as Dee and her husband, who have made a significant difference for patients and staff at Cascade Valley Hospital.
Every tax-deductible donation, large or small, is a gift. To find out how you can make a difference, contact the Foundation office at 360-435-2133 ext. 4705 or e-mail .
